Minister Of Environment And Forestry Asks RDF Rorotan To Operate To Handle 2,500 Tons Of DKI Waste

JAKARTA - Minister of Environment (LH), Hanif Faisol Nurofiq reminded that the Rorotan Revuse Derived Fuel (RDF) should have operated since the end of last year, and asked that the facility could be immediately used to handle 2,500 tons of Jakarta waste.

"My hope is that as promised by the Provincial Government of Jakarta, it will reduce waste since December 2024. Additional waste reductions of 2,500 tons per day with the operation of the Rorotan RDF," said Minister of Environment/Head of the Environmental Control Agency (BPLH), Hanif after reviewing the waste management of Teluk Gong Market, North Jakarta, Wednesday, July 2.

But to this day Rorotan is not yet operating. This means that there are 2,500 tons of waste disposal that cannot be handled.

He reminded that the operation of the Rorotan RDF facility is very important in order to reduce waste in the Jakarta area, which is estimated to produce 8,000 tons of waste per day.

The postponement of Rorotan RDF operations occurred because during the trial it emitted a odor that caused residents' protests. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government plans to start operating the facilitation in September this year.

Most of these quantities were taken to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management Site (TPST) which was no longer able to accommodate waste, due to excess capacity.

Minister Hanif said the Bantargebang TPST has not been closed, because there are no other locations that can accommodate Jakarta waste.

Therefore, the Minister of Environment conducts a review in the areas of North Jakarta, East Jakarta and Central Jakarta to ensure that waste management runs well, especially for sorting efforts.

It is planned that the waste from the three locations will be brought to RDF Rorotan for further processing.

The focus of management, especially targeting waste generated from households and the region, such as markets, hotels, restaurants, and cafes, which produce organic and inorganic waste.

"Yesterday we went to the urban villages, and I will continue to go to urban villages, especially in North Jakarta, because I think Rorotan already has problems. So, if we tighten it upstream in North Jakarta, parts of Central Jakarta, and East Jakarta, the place is already in Rorotan," said Hanif.

The majority of the waste produced in North Jakarta is inorganic, covering 51 percent of the 1,100 tons of waste produced in the region every day.

Meanwhile, Head of the North Jakarta Environmental Agency (LH), Edy Mulyanto, said that his party continues to disseminate information to resolve waste issues in the area and carry out the plan contained in the North Jakarta waste management roadmap. Considering that North Jakarta is a pilot for national waste management.
