JAKARTA - Iran has criticized the change in US President Donald Trump's stance on lifting economic sanctions against Tehran. Trump's decision is seen as a "game" that has not resolved the problem between the two countries.
"This (Trump statement) should be seen more in the context of psychological and media games than as a serious expression that supports dialogue or problem solving," Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei told a news conference on Monday, June 30.
Trump was sparked by a statement of Iran's war victory over Israel made by Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Trump initially considered lifting sanctions against Iran, but Khamenei's statement also confirmed he would not give up on the US, causing Trump to suddenly cancel the plan.
"Over the past few days, I've been working on a possible lifting of sanctions, and other things, which will provide a much better chance for Iran to fully, quickly, and completely - The sanctions are GIGIT! But no, on the contrary, I was instead bombarded with statements of anger, hatred and disgust, and immediately canceled all jobs to ease sanctions, and more," Trump wrote on Truth Social. CNN, Saturday, June 28.
The president also claimed he personally detained Israeli and US troops to kill Khamenei.
"I know exactly where he took refuge, and will not allow Israel, or the US Armed Forces, who have so far been the GREATest and most powerful in the world, to end his life. I SAVE HIM FROM VERY BAD AND EMBARRASSING DEATHS," Trump added.
In a statement following the Iranian-Israeli ceasefire, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called the US aggravating the scale of damage to Tehran's nuclear facility, which Washington bombed amid the Iran-Israeli conflict.
According to Khamenei, Washington has failed to achieve its goals while Tehran has successfully damaged the US military base in Qatar. The supreme leader also claims Iran won both over Israel and the US.

"The United States is at war (with Iran) to save Israel, but has achieved nothing from this war," he said on Thursday, June 26, reported by Sputnik.
"The United States is attacking our nuclear facilities, of course, worthy of criminal investigation by its own international courts, but they cannot do anything serious," Khamenei said.
Instead of achieving the goal of his attack on Iran, the US continued Khamenei was actually "exaggerating" the story of hiding the real facts.
He said Washington also underestimated the damage caused by Iran's attack on a military base in Qatar.
Khamenei vowed Iran would take action against US military bases in the Middle East "whenever necessary".
"If there is aggression, then the costs and losses suffered by the enemy will definitely be great," said Khamenei.
