JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said he would resolve the conflict with North Korea (North Korea).

Speaking in the Oval Room, Trump was asked if he had written a letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, as reported this month.

Trump did not answer that question directly.

"I have a good relationship with Kim Jong Un and really fits into it. So, we'll see what happens," Trump said.

"Someone said there was a potential conflict, I think we will solve it," Trump said.

"If there was, it wouldn't involve us," the US President added.

The NK News website based in Seoul, which monitors North Korea, reported this month that the North Korean delegation to the United Nations (UN) in New York has repeatedly refused to receive Trump's letter to Kim.

Trump and Kim held three summits during Trump's 2017-2021 first term and exchanged letters called Trump "indah," before the unprecedented diplomatic effort failed due to US demands for Kim to hand over his nuclear weapons.

In his second term of office, Trump acknowledged North Korea was a "nuclear force."

The White House previously said Trump would welcome communication again with Kim, although it did not confirm any letters were sent.

North Korea has shown no interest in re-negotiating since the collapse of Trump's diplomacy in 2019.

Instead, the country has significantly expanded its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs, and developed close ties with Russia through direct support for Moscow's war in Ukraine, where Pyongyang has provided troops and weapons.
