MPR Chair Respects KPK Investigating Allegations Of Corruption In Institutions

JAKARTA - MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani responded to the news from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) which revealed allegations of corruption within the MPR.

"Yes, I read the news about what was conveyed by the KPK leadership that there were allegations of abuse in the implementation of finances at the MPR," said Muzani, Wednesday, June 25.

Muzani said the MPR leadership would respect the legal steps being taken by the KPK regarding the alleged gratification related to the procurement of goods and services which reached tens of billions of rupiah.

"MPR respects what the KPK leadership has done in an effort to save and eradicate these allegations," he said.

Muzani also supports the KPK in thoroughly investigating corruption cases involving officials within the MPR.

"And of course what has been explained by the Secretary General, we are waiting for the completion and the next actions," he concluded.

Previously, the KPK revealed that the suspect in the alleged gratification related to the procurement of goods and services in the MPR environment pocketed up to tens of billions of rupiah.

KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said that currently only one suspect has been named. He did not specify who, but a VOI source said the figure was former Secretary General of the MPR Ma'ruf Cahyono (MC).

"So far (the gratuity received by the suspect, ed) is around tens of billions. Approximately Rp. 17 billion," Budi told reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Monday, June 23.

Budi said this number could still change. Because, the calculation is still ongoing.

"And the KPK is also still investigating various information related to the procurement of what is related to the receipt of these gratuities," he said.

As for the investigation into the alleged receipt of gratuities, KPK investigators began to examine two witnesses.

They are the Grandchildren of History who are the Officials for the Procurement of Goods/Services for Delivery and Multiplication at the Secretariat General of the MPR for 2020-2021 and Fahmi Idris who is the Working Group of the Goods and Services Procurement Work Unit (POKJA-UKPBJ) at the Secretariat General of the MPR RI in 2020.

His graduation was asked for information at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta on Monday, June 23.
