JAKARTA - Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) said the number of missiles launched at the United States (US) military base in Qatar was equivalent to the number of bombs used in the Washington attack on Sunday against Iran's nuclear facilities.
The SNSC issued a statement after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Monday evening targeted the US-owned Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar in the "Promise of Victory" operation.
"Responding to the United States' aggressive and impudent actions against Iran's nuclear site and facility, our powerful Armed Forces destroyed an American force air base in Al-Udeid Qatar," he said in a statement.
"The number of missiles used in this successful operation is the same as the number of bombs US used in the attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, and the base targeted by Iran's powerful forces is far from urban facilities and residential areas in Qatar," SNSC added.
"This move (Iran missile attack) poses no threat to our friendly and brotherhoodless nation, Qatar, and its noble people, and Iran remains committed to safeguarding and continuing warm and historic relations with Qatar," the statement said.
Iran's missile strike on Monday was a response to US attacks on three locations of nuclear facilities in Iran on June 21.
