JAKARTA - The government has issued an appeal for the public to perform tarawih prayers, during the month of Ramadan, at home during the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic.

The Director General of Islamic Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, Kamaruddin Amin, said that this appeal was issued after considering the current conditions and situation.

"We don't do tarawih together, we just do it at home. Because it has the potential for us to transmit or be transmitted when we gather together at the mosque," said Kamaruddin at Graha BNPB, Jakarta, Friday, April 17.

Even though worship from home, said Kamaruddin, it does not mean that the quality of worship will decrease. This is because worship is not only determined by location, but rather than one's solemnity and sincerity.

In addition, by praying from home, there are other benefits that can be obtained, namely being closer to the family.

"As Allah says about sincerity, the purity of a spirit of sincerity and devotion determines the quality of our worship," said Kamaruddin.

In addition to appealing to worship at home, Kamaruddin also asked the public not to hold activities that cause crowds during Ramadan, such as breaking the fast together and so on.

"We advise against breaking the fast together, which we usually do in government offices, in private offices, in families, we urge us not to do it anymore," said Kamaruddin.

By following all the existing recommendations, it is hoped that the COVID-19 pandemic will soon pass. "Let us try and we are obliged to follow the government's recommendation of physical distancing, as it is a must for all of us," said Kamaruddin.
