The North Sumatra Regional Police (Polda) managed to uncover a fraud case against five prospective students (cassis) of the 2024 Police Officers carried out by a former police officer along with his wife and employee.

The perpetrators promised the victims that they could be accepted through a special route, with a total loss of IDR 1.4 billion.

The three suspects arrested were Parlautan Banjarnahor, a former member of the National Police; his wife, Rita Nurhaidah Butarbutar; and an employee named Susilawati Siregar.

The arrests were made on Monday, June 9, at two different locations in Medan City, namely Jalan Selambo, Medan Denai District, and on Jalan Jamin Ginting.

The Head of the Regional Supervision Inspectorate (Irwasda) of the North Sumatra Police, Police Commissioner Nanang Masbudi, explained that the three suspects used the guise of tutoring to enter the National Police to catch the victims. Parents are promised a special route to enter the National Police NCO on condition that they pay quite expensive bimbel fees.

"We managed to arrest three perpetrators in a fraud case against five prospective NCO students. They promised the victims they could enter through a special route," Kombes Nanang told reporters, Tuesday, June 10.

This case was uncovered after a victim's parents named Nulina reported a loss of Rp430 million, because their child had not passed the selection. Based on the report, the North Sumatra Police Jatanras Team conducted an investigation until they finally arrested the three perpetrators along with evidence.

Head of Sub-Directorate of Jatanras Polda North Sumatra, Commissioner of Police Jama Kita Purba, said that Parlautan acts as a bimbel owner, while his wife and employees handle communication and administration with the victim's parents.

"The sea only meets the victims once. The next process is handled by his wife and admin," said Kompol Jama.

Of the five victims who reported, the total loss reached Rp1.4 billion. The prospective students were promised to pass the 2024 Police Officer selection, and if they were not received, the money would be returned. However, the promise was never kept and not a single child of the victim was accepted in the selection.

"Their motive is to seek personal gain by selling false hopes to the victim's parents," he explained.

Currently, the three suspects have been detained at the North Sumatra Police Headquarters and charged with fraud and embezzlement. They face up to five years in prison.

The North Sumatra Police appealed to the public not to easily believe in special lane offers in the recruitment process for members of the National Police. The selection of National Police Officers is carried out openly, objectively, and transparently.
