PALU - Efforts to strengthen the protection of Indonesian citizens (WNI) working abroad continue to be carried out thoroughly by the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI).
Most recently, it was realized by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) together with the Ministry of P2MI and the Provincial Government of Central Sulawesi (Central Sulawesi Provincial Government) and the five regencies/cities in the Thousand Megalith Country, namely Sigi, Donggala, Parigi Moutong, Poso and Palu.
After the signing of the MoU, the Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding said this step was aimed at building a safe, legal, and integrated workforce migration system, as well as preventing the trade practices of people that were still rampant in regional migrant bags.
"We don't want any more Indonesian citizens, especially from Central Sulawesi, who are victims of human trafficking or work abroad illegally because of ignorance or being used by brokers," said Minister Karding at Gelora Bumi Kaktus (GBK), Palu, Central Sulawesi on Tuesday, June 10.
Minister Karding explained, so far there are still many migrant workers who leave without procedures or illegal because the area of origin does not yet have a system that supports safe migration. Through this MoU, KemenP2MI wants to strengthen the migration service infrastructure starting from the village, school, to district levels.
"If this migration system is built properly, then our children can work abroad with full protection, get proper rights, and be able to return with useful skills and experiences," he said.

Minister Karding, who is also the son of the Central Sulawesi region, emphasized that cooperation between the center through KemenP2MI and local governments (Pemda) should not stop at the signing of the MoU alone, but must be continued with concrete actions in the field.
"We must have clear data, active migration services, and firm law enforcement against illegal shipping perpetrators. The state must be present before our citizens depart, not only after there is a problem," he added.
This MoU also paved the way for the formation of Migrant Centers in various districts/cities which will become a one-stop training, information, and service center for prospective migrant workers.
On the same occasion, it was also conveyed the Joint Declaration of Anti-Corruption of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) led by the Central Sulawesi Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Agus Nugroho witnessed directly by elements of Forkopimda, community leaders, and regional heads.
"We are the Communication Forum for the Regional Leadership of Central Sulawesi Province together with the community and the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers are committed to preventing and eradicating the placement of illegal Indonesian migrant workers and criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO)," said Central Sulawesi Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Agus Nugroho was followed by all participants present.
