The City Police (Polresta) of Samarinda, East Kalimantan (Kaltim) has given a warning to around 80 Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL) truck drivers for crossing the city route.

"This action is part of a national program implemented simultaneously throughout Indonesia," said Head of the Samarinda Police Traffic Unit (Kasatlantas) Kompol La Ode Prasetyo in Samarinda, Monday.

He explained that the period from June 1 to July 13 was still a phase of socialization and appeal. Strict action in the form of a ticket only started after the socialization period ended, namely in the second week of July to coincide with the National Obedient Operation.

Since June 2, the Samarinda Police has actively given advice and verbal warnings to violating ODOL truck drivers. Daily data related to this reprimand was also reported to the East Kalimantan Police and continues to be monitored by Korlantas.

Kompol La Ode Prasetyo emphasized that ODOL trucks are not only ordinary traffic violations, but are classified as traffic crimes.

This is because ODOL can have various negative consequences. First, there is an increased risk of traffic accidents due to excessive load and non-standard vehicle dimensions.

Second, ODOL vehicles often cause traffic jams due to slow speeds and consume a lot of road space. Third, overloading on roads accelerates infrastructure damage and increases repair costs. Fourth, road damage and high cost of improvement can have a negative impact on the country's economy.

Therefore, Kompol La Ode appealed to transportation entrepreneurs and parties who use goods transport vehicles not to overload and not to modify the dimensions of the vehicle (charoseri).

He also emphasized that this enforcement program is a national program that aims to maintain traffic order and maintain road infrastructure.

Later, the Samarinda Police will coordinate with Jasa Raharja and the Transportation Service to take action.
