JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that any abuse of the "shuffle mechanism" to return United Nations sanctions against Iran would be responded with a firm response.

Foreign Minister Araghchi delivered the warning while briefing members of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission regarding the latest round of indirect talks with the United States, according to Ebrahim Rezaei, a committee spokesman.

"Iran has never left the negotiating table and prefers diplomacy, but will strongly respond to the activation of the JCPOA recovery mechanism (2015 Nuclear Agreement)," Foreign Minister AragCHI said as quoted by Razaei, quoted by IRNA on May 26.

Three European countries that signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) British, French, and German (E3) face a deadline of October 18 to implement a "shuffle mechanism", a clause listed in UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which supports the 2015 nuclear deal.

They threatened to activate the mechanism if no agreement was reached in the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the US.

Iran has warned it will abandon the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) if European countries "re-implement" international sanctions against Iran being lifted based on the JCPOA.

Foreign Minister Araghchi submitted a report to commission members regarding the latest rounds of negotiations with the US, stressing Iran "does not negotiate under pressure" and the negotiations remain focused exclusively on nuclear issues, Rezaei said.

The spokesman also noted that Foreign Minister Araghchi said Israel was the party opposing uranium enrichment within Iran. While welcoming the idea of a regional enrichment center, foreign ministers rejected the prospect of halting enrichment within Iran's territory, he said.

"Foreign Minister Araghchi also warned that all countries in the region will be harmed in the event of war," he said.

Foreign Minister Araghchi has led five rounds of negotiations - three in Muscat (Oman) and two in Rome (Italy) - with US special envoy Steve Witkoff, mediated by Foreign Minister Oman Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi.

Witkoff said Washington would not accept any uranium enrichment levels by Iran as part of any potential agreement to replace the JCPOA.

Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei denounced the demands as "exceeding and outrageous," saying negotiations with the US were unlikely to bear fruit.

Tehran also affirmed its right to enrich uranium as a member of the NPT.
