JAKARTA - Indonesian House of Representatives Speaker (DPR) Puan Maharani responded to the proposal to increase political party funds up to 10 times. Puan said that the increase in political party funds needs to consider the state budget capacity.
"The question of the proposed political party funds is essentially, the context is about anti-corruption, but we have to see in the future whether the State Budget (APBN) is sufficient," said Puan at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday, May 25, afternoon.
Puan also assessed that an in-depth study is needed regarding the benefits and harms of increasing political party funds.
"Whether it can be done quickly, let's see what the study is like," said the Chairperson of the PDIP Party Central Executive Board (DPP).
For information, the Gerindra Party has proposed an increase in political party funds up to 10 times. Gerindra Secretary General Ahmad Muzani assessed that the increase in party funding assistance could be around IDR 10 thousand per vote.
Meanwhile, PKS Party's Treasurer Mahfudz Abdurrahman also proposed that parties be allowed to form business entities as one of the additional sources of political party funds. According to her, this business entity can make the party not dependent on a small number of parties.
The sources of funding for political parties in Indonesia are currently regulated in Law Number 2 of 2011 concerning Political Parties. And there are derivative regulations in PP Number 1 of 2017 which state that the sources of party funds only come from 3 sources, namely member contributions, legally valid donations, and assistance from the APBN/APBD.
Furthermore, Puan ensured that the DPR will oversee the Draft State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (RAPBN) for the 2026 Fiscal Year. The government itself has submitted the Macroeconomic Framework and Fiscal Policy Principles (KEM and PPKF) of the 2026 RAPBN to the DPR, in a Plenary Meeting, Thursday, May 22, last.
"KEM and PPKF were submitted yesterday, we will see all the new policies and will be discussed in the upcoming session. What are the government's programs, then they will be discussed by the commissions in the DPR. We will see what is best for the people," said Puan.
Puan stated that the DPR will 'keep an eye on' the implementation of the APBN so that the management by the government is in accordance with existing accountability.
"So yes, that will be at the end of this month the Ministry of Finance, next week the views of the factions, then later the Government will provide its answer again regarding the views of all factions," explained the former Coordinating Minister for Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK).
