The government has started cleaning up debris and demolition of heavily damaged houses in Rafflesia Asri Housing, Betungan Village, Selebar District, Bengkulu City, following the earthquake that hit the area. A number of heavy equipment has been deployed to accelerate the rehabilitation and reconstruction process.
Seven houses were recorded to have suffered heavy damage and became a top priority to rebuild. Meanwhile, another 40 houses that were moderately damaged and lightly will be rehabilitated until they are habitable again.
Before the delission process began, all joint personnel from the Bengkulu Police Mobile Brigade, Korem 041/Gamas, BPBD, PUPR, Basarnas, and related agencies participated in a joint rally led by Bengkulu Governor Helmi Hasan with BNPB Deputy for Systems and Strategy Raditya Jati, Bengkulu Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Mardiyono, and his staff.
The process went smoothly without rejection from residents. On the other hand, residents welcomed it because their damaged houses were finally repaired or rebuilt.
"On the third day, there has been a commitment from the local government to build houses for affected residents, especially those who were severely damaged. This is a strong commitment that should be appreciated," Raditya Jati said in his statement, Monday, May 26.
The rebuilding of residents' houses will begin on Monday, May 26, with a target of completion within one month. Funding comes from various sources, including regional treasury, assistance from regents/mayors throughout Bengkulu, CSR forums, to Baznas.
BNPB also recommends that houses be built with earthquake-resistant specifications, in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and the PUPR Service. The houses will be built in the same location (insults) with better resilience standards.

In addition to physical development, BNPB provides support in the form of residential waiting funds, stimulant funds, as well as logistical assistance and equipment for affected residents. All assistance will be adjusted to the capacity and needs of the region so that overlapping does not occur.
"We are ready to support the distribution of stimulant funds which are currently being verified, both for heavily, moderately, and lightly damaged houses. BNPB will fill the gaps according to regional needs," said Raditya.
