JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono invited ASEAN countries to unite to help Myanmar create peace, reminding the high price of not doing anything.

The Indonesian Foreign Minister said the crisis in Myanmar had become a serious threat to stability in the region. Therefore, Foreign Minister Sugiono encouraged steps to stop violence and create conditions for inclusive dialogue.
"Because the price of not doing anything is very high," said Foreign Minister Sugiono warning in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sunday (25/5).
"We must unite to help Myanmar in creating peace, which is Myanmar-led and Myanmar-signed," concluded the Foreign Minister closing his statement.
Previously, Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized Indonesia's commitment to a peaceful settlement of the Myanmar crisis, highlighting the importance of ASEAN's unity in dealing with the situation in the Thousand Pagoda Country at the Extraordinary Information on the Implementation of the Five-Point Consensus which was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, Malaysia yesterday.
"Indonesia remains steadfast in its commitment to encourage a peaceful settlement in Myanmar," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
"Regional stability can only be achieved if ASEAN is united and acts based on the principles of consensus and solidarity," he explained.
Foreign Minister Sugiono reiterated the importance of full implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus (5PC), focusing on stopping violence, expanding humanitarian aid, ensuring inclusive dialogue involving all stakeholders in Myanmar.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Sugiono also expressed full support for Malaysia's various initiatives as chairman of ASEAN this year, in facilitating the process of resolving internal conflicts peacefully in Myanmar, as well as Indonesia's readiness to continue to actively contribute to the restoration of democracy and Myanmar's stability.
"ASEAN's strength lies in its unity. In facing the Myanmar crisis, we must speak in one voice and act with one goal to encourage the full implementation of the 5PC," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
