JAKARTA - Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Minister (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding visited an oil palm plantation owned by FGV Holding Berhad in Pahang, Malaysia on Friday, May 23.

During his visit, Minister Karding had a chance to talk with Muttaqin, one of the Indonesian migrant workers who worked in an oil palm plantation at the FGV Holding Berhad.

Minister Karding asked about Muttaqin's work which was in accordance with the contract or not. Muttaqin replied, as long as he worked, there were no problems and the work was carried out in accordance with the work contract.

"So, have you read the contract? But, is everything safe?" asked Minister Karding.

"Yes, it's safe. There is an appeal, (work contract) put it at home. If anything reads the work contract again," replied Muttaqin.

Minister Karding reminded Muttaqin to report to supervisors, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Malaysia or through the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI) if there are violations committed by the company.

"If there is anything, for example it is not in accordance with the contract, report to the supervisor here or directly to the embassy or to the ministry," said Minister Karding.

Minister Karding revealed that currently there are around 18 thousand Indonesian migrant workers who work in oil palm plantations owned by FGV Holding Berhad.

In addition to talking with Indonesian migrant workers, Minister Karding also tried to harvest palm oil.

Minister Karding said harvesting oil does require qualified skills or skills.

"My radi has tried to harvest, apparently it is not easy to become a skill worker. So indeed this is in whatever skill is needed," said Minister Karding.

"If it's like me, the minister suddenly looks like this (wearing palm oil), for that long the pelepah has been cut," he added jokingly.
