JAKARTA - Chairman of the PSI faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, William Aditya Sarana, questioned Pramono's decision to cancel installing surveillance cameras or CCTV in each RT-RW Jakarta and switch to a plan to monitor CCTV with the private sector.

In fact, William emphasized, the discourse on installing CCTV for each RT-RW is one of Pramono Anung-Rano Karno's campaign promises during the 2024 DKI Jakarta Pilkada.

"The cancellation of the CCTV installation in each RT/RW, which is one of Mas Pram's election promises, is a question. First, what was the consideration at that time, so that the CCTV installation was promised to the public. Then, we also want to know what the reason was until it was not implemented clearly," William told reporters, Tuesday, May 20.

William also questioned what Pramono meant by saying he would install CCTV as a whole. William asked that the statement be explained in detail because the security aspect is a sensitive issue that requires clarity.

"Does it mean that CCTV will be installed in every corner? Or in more detail, there will be several areas that will get special attention in terms of CCTV installation? All of that must be explained so that we can get an idea of Jakarta's security posture in the future," he said.

This member of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD admitted that PSI actually supports Pramono's steps in improving security in Jakarta. However, every policy related to the security of citizens must be explained openly.

"Regarding this, we also have to reflect. In fact, don't make campaign promises that turn out to be difficult to realize in the future. All promises and policies must be carefully considered first," he concluded.

Pramono previously admitted that he had changed the plan to install CCTV in each RT-RW as a whole. However, it is not clear about the CCTV installation mechanism.

"Later in the near future, as I told you in the past, we will not install anything related to CCTV such as RT-RW, but overall," said Pramono on Thursday, May 15.

Pramono explained that he had canceled the plan to install CCTV in RT-RW after knowing the condition of the Jakarta budget. According to him, the DKI Provincial Government can save the budget by renting CCTV operations with third parties rather than buying new devices.

"Regarding CCTV, it is better not to pay yourself. Because maintenance will be more expensive and so on. Yesterday I went to Smart City and also internal City Hall I studied, it would be much cheaper," explained Pramono.

"The procurement is very fast, not up to 5-6 months, it must have been completed. Because actually almost all networks have been installed. It's just a matter of whether it's for surveillance or for deeper investigation, depending on the DKI government's decision," he added.
