JAKARTA - Vladimir Medinsky, head of Russia's delegation in Ukraine's peace negotiations in Istanbul, said it was satisfied with the outcome of the talks and was ready to continue negotiations with Kyiv.
Medinsky said Russia and Ukraine agreed to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war each in the coming days, one of the biggest exchanges since the start of the conflict.
Russian and Ukrainian negotiators were in Istanbul on Friday, May 16, for their first direct peace negotiations in more than three years, under pressure from US President Donald Trump to end Europe's deadliest conflict since World War Two.
"In general, we are satisfied with the results and ready to continue contact. In the coming days, there will be a large exchange of thousands of prisoners against a thousand," Medinsky said.
"The Ukrainian side has asked for direct negotiations between the leaders of the country. We have paid attention to this request," he continued.
"We have agreed that each side will convey its vision of a possible ceasefire in the future and outline it in detail. Once the vision is delivered, we believe it will be appropriate, as also agreed, to continue our negotiations," Medinsky said.
