Become President Of The OKI State Parliament, Puan Leads The Opening Session Of The 19th PUIC Conference

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has officially become the 19th President of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC). Puan immediately chaired the conference session of the United Nations of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OKI) or the 19th PUIC where the DPR acted as the host.

Puan opened the first session of the 19th PUIC Conference which was held at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 14, afternoon. The session was also attended by the Secretary General of PUIC, Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass.

"In accordance with Article 4 of the PUIC Statute, allow me as the chairman of the host country's Parliament to chair the 19th meeting of the PUIC Conference," said Puan opening the 19th PUIC Conference Session.

The first agenda of the trial was to select a member of the 19th PUIC Conference bureau consisting of two Deputy Chairs (Vice Chairpersons) from the geographic area and a reporter (rapporteur) from the delegates who attended.

The trial forum consisting of members of the OIC state delegation decided to elect members of the Ivory Coast Parliament, MaimounaEpsé Toure (African Group) and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf (Ar Arab Group) as two Deputy Chairmen of PUIC who accompanied Puan. Meanwhile, Member of the Indonesian Parliament, Irine Yusiana Roba Putri was chosen to be Raporteur.

Next, Puan led the ratification of the agenda and work program of the 19th PUIC Conference. The agenda of the session was continued with a speech from each chairman and deputy chairman of the OKI state parliament who was present.

Some delivered speeches at the trial forum such as the Chairman of the Saudi Arabian Shura Council Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh, the Speaker of the Algerian Parliament Ibrahim Boughali, the Speaker of the Bahrain Parliament Ahmed Al Musallam, the Speaker of the Burkina Parliament Faso Bougouma Ousmane.

Then the Speaker of the Parliament of Ivory Coast Adama Bictogo, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament Tan Sri Dato Johari Bin Abdul, the Speaker of Parliament Oman Khalid Hilal Nasser Al Maawali, and the President of the Arab Parliament Mohamed Ahmed Alyammahi. Some countries were represented by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

After delivering the speech from each PUIC country delegation, Puan also expressed her gratitude.

"The highest appreciation to the Chairs and Deputy Speakers of Parliament members of PUIC who have expressed their thoughts, views from their respective countries," said Puan.

"What speeches and welcomes were an inspiration for all of us in making improvements and strengthening governance in their respective countries," added Puan.

After the opening of the 19th PUIC Conference, the delegates were invited to enjoy a gala dinner prepared by the House of Representatives as hosting. Dinner was held before the inauguration ceremony for the opening of the PUIC-19 Conference which was planned to be attended by President Prabowo Subianto.

The 19th PUIC was held at the DPR building, from May 12, 2025 to May 15, 2025. Although the official opening ceremony was only held tonight, the 19th PUIC series of activities had started yesterday, Monday, May 12, with a number of important meetings.

Several meeting sessions that have been held include discussing issues related to Palestine and Muslim Minority, Civilization and Religion Dialogue, Economics and the Environment, as well as issues of Human Rights, Women and Families.
