Reporting from Antanews, Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya was born in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, on June 6, 1931. Eddie not only witnessed, but also participated in defending Indonesia's independence when the Dutch Military Aggression in 1947 was raging.

Eddie's valuable experience grew his admiration for the martial arts abilities of the fighters, who then sparked his love for pencak silat.

Eddie's life journey led him to form a friendship and join the pesilat community, until finally he carried out the mandate as General Chairperson of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (PB IPSI) for more than twenty years, from 1981 to 2003 to be exact.

Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya's dedication in introducing pencak silat to the international arena resulted in brilliant achievements.

Eddie had a significant role in the success of admitting pencak silat as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO on December 12, 2019. In this important period, from 2014 to 2019, Eddie also carried out the mandate as the supervisor of the Pencak Silat Road to UNESCO and Olympic Team.

In addition, in 1980, Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya also founded the International Pencak Silat Association (Persilat), a forum that has succeeded in gathering various silat organizations from Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam.

That same year, Eddie was also elected President of Persilat. Thanks to his initiative, the martial arts of pencak silat was first competed in the SEA Games in 1987.

For his services in initiating the Pencak silat championship in Europe in 2008, Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya was later known as the 'Father of the European Silat Pencak' in Switzerland.

On April 5, 1984, Nalapraya was trusted to carry out the mandate as Deputy Governor of Jakarta for Political Affairs.

At that time, Eddie Nalapraya had a concurrent position until finally he handed over his position in ABRI in November 1984. His tenure as deputy governor ended along with the inauguration of his successor on December 19, 1987.

After the Reformation, Nalapraya returned to being active in the world of politics. On June 13, 1998, he joined the Grand Advisory Council under the leadership of President B. J. Habibie.

Eddie Nalapraya became a member of the board's agency and the agency that handles defense and security. He continued to contribute as a member of the council until the agency was dissolved on July 31, 2003.

Major General TNI Retired Dr. (HC) H. Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya, who is widely known as the Father of the World Pencak Silat and a national sports figure, passed away to Rahmatullah on Tuesday at 09.50 WIB. He breathed his last at Pondok Indah Hospital, Jakarta, at the age of 93 years.

Eddie Nalapraya's body is planned to be buried at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, Jakarta. Before the funeral, the body was buried at the Pencak Silat Pencak Taman Mini Indonesia Indah as a final tribute.
