JAKARTA - Secretary of Commission E of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Justin Adrian Untayana suggested that the DKI Provincial Government impose fines on parents of naughty children such as skipping school until a brawl.

Fines for parents who cannot control their children can be applied through the formation of regional regulations (perda).

"It makes sense when a regional regulation is made, where parents can be fined if their children skip, fight, and so on," Justin said in his statement, Wednesday, May 14.

Justin explained that the imposition of fines through similar regulations had been implemented in several European countries, the aim was to make children participate in compulsory learning programs.

"In the Netherlands, parents can be fined starting at Rp. 1.8 million per day if their children don't attend school. Then in England, parents can be fined up to = 2,500 (Rp. 54 million) for the same reason. In fact, in England parents can be imprisoned for that, "said Justin.

According to Justin, through policies like this, the DKI Provincial Government can encourage parents to also take responsibility in educating their children well.

"With good parenting from parents, plus character education in the school curriculum, plus government programs, and regulatory regulations, I believe juvenile delinquency problems can be minimized optimally together," he explained.

Children and adolescents are complex problems, according to Justin, so they need a breakthrough to solve them.

So, all parties, from parents, schools, to the government, must be involved because one of them cannot solve this problem alone.

"It would be unfair if the task of educating children's character was given to schools that were only with children for 7 hours per day, while the other 17 hours were in the power of parents," he said.

Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said that the DKI Provincial Government prioritized aspects of prevention in eradicating brawls between youth and the community in Jakarta.

Therefore, Pramono did not follow in the footsteps of the Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, who sent troubled teenagers and students to the military barracks.

To handle cases of brawls, such as in Manggarai, South Jakarta, some time ago, Pramono had instructed the Satpol PP ranks to go to the field by cooperating with the police.

"For prevention, I have asked the Satpol PP to coordinate with the police to prevent existing brawls," Pramono told reporters, Thursday, April 8.
