The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has asked local governments to cancel licensing documents and environmental approvals granted to business activities in areas that are not in accordance with their designation in Puncak, West Java.
"Some time ago the Minister (LH) had written to the local government, to the Environmental Service, to revoke the permits that had been given," said Deputy for Law Enforcement (Gakkum) KLH Rizal Irawan as reported by ANTARA, Friday, May 9.
Rizal said that his party had imposed administrative sanctions for the government's coercion on 13 business actors/activities in cooperation with operations (KSO) with PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) I Regional 2 of the 33 KSOs available.
Nine of the KSOs are being asked to cancel permits and revoke environmental approval issued by local governments.
"Because based on the study that the area is not intended for business activities and there are also some in additional areas that are not licensed," he explained.
In the examination and verification carried out by KLH, it was found that only 160 hectares of the KSO area already had permits from 350 hectares that had been used or would be utilized.
Rizal said the government's coercion was taken firmly considering that his party was carrying out surveillance duties when the local government had not done it optimally. The imposition of sanctions is also carried out when violations are found to pose a serious threat to the environment and living things.
In terms of the area in Puncak, Rizal said that the conversion of land in the upstream area has the potential to be one of the flood factors that hit the area some time ago.

The government force, which has been given to 13 KSOs, requires them to stop activities, carry out independent demolition, and rehabilitate the area by planting suitable vegetation in the region.
This step was taken after previously Minister of Environment and Forestry Hanif Faisol Nurofiq conducted an inspection with Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan and West Java Governor Dedy Mulyadi of the four tourist sites in Puncak on March 6.
