Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Menko Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra said there was no urgency for President Prabowo Subianto to issue a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) regarding asset confiscation.
"No, there is no reason to issue a Perppu for that," said Yusril at the Jakarta Presidential Palace, Monday, May 5, as reported by ANTARA.
Yusril explained that Perppu was only issued under conditions of coercive interest, while currently the law related to eradicating corruption, both in the criminal law of corruption and law enforcement agencies such as the police, prosecutors, and the KPK, is considered still effective in handling this matter.
"So I don't think there is an urgency to issue government regulations to replace the law, but yes, it's up to us to return it to the President," he said.
Yusril said that the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU) was included in the 2024-2029 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).
The government, he said, is still waiting for confirmation from the DPR to begin discussing the draft law, including the possibility to revise the draft that has been submitted since 2023.
"As soon as the DPR has prepared, it is ready to discuss, of course, the President will issue a letter appointing a minister who will discuss the draft law until it is finished.

Meanwhile, Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas said the government is paying serious attention to accelerating the discussion of the Asset Confiscation Bill.
He said he had coordinated with the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to finalize the draft bill.
"This morning I together with the Chairman of PPATK to finalize regarding this latest draft. Then we will also consult with the DPR regarding when it is the right time for us to have a meeting to determine the next prolegnas," he said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairperson of the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR, Sturman Panjaitan, opened up opportunities for discussing the Draft Law on Asset Confiscation to roll this year.
"I think this year because yesterday it was clear that the President's direction was yesterday. Well, we have to regulate that in doing that," said Sturman at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday.
However, he said that until now the DPR Baleg had not received an assignment from the leadership of the DPR to discuss the bill.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto supported the discussion and acceleration of the ratification of the Asset Confiscation Bill as a form of the government's commitment to eradicating corruption in Indonesia. This was conveyed during a speech at the commemoration of International Labor Day at Monas Field, Central Jakarta, Thursday (1/5).
"In order to eradicate corruption, I support the Asset Confiscation Act," said President Prabowo.
The Head of State emphasized that there should be no compromise against perpetrators of corruption who are reluctant to return the results of their crimes.
