53 KRI Nanggala-402 Soldiers Awarded Extraordinary Promotion

JAKARTA - 53 KRI Nanggala-402 soldiers received extraordinary promotion awards. This soldier died because the submarine sank while on duty in Bali waters.

The Indonesian Military Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto gave the extraordinary promotion award when accompanying Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto in the awarding of the Indonesian Honorary Sign.

This ceremony is a form of final tribute to the soldiers who died. The ceremony was held at Hangar 2 at Juanda Airport Surabaya, East Java, Thursday, 29 Apirl.

The awarding of honors and extraordinary promotions is based on Presidential Decree No. 26 / TK / 2021 concerning the awarding of the Star of Honor Jalasena Nararya, Presidential Decree No. 39 / TNI / 2021 regarding the promotion of extraordinary ranks of Military Operations Apart from Posthumous War, the Indonesian Minister of Defense No. 466 / IV / 2021 concerning the granting of posthumous promotions and the Indonesian Military Commander's Decree No. Kep 341 / IV / 2021 concerning the stipulation of an extraordinary promotion for Military Operations Apart from Posthumous War.

The TNI Commander conveyed President Joko Widodo's message regarding scholarships for children of KRI Nanggala-402 soldiers who are still in school.

“The Personnel Service will collect data and will immediately build houses for the families of the fallen Soldiers. "Hopefully what we all want is related to housing facilities as well as educational scholarships for children and girls can be achieved," said the TNI Commander.

Also participating in the awarding ceremony of the Honorary Mark of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) and extraordinary promotions for 53 KRI Nanggala-402 Soldiers, including National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, KSAL Admiral TNI Yudo Margono, as well as high-ranking officers and TNI-Polri officials.

As previously reported, TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto on the fifth day of the search or on Sunday, April 25, announced that 53 soldiers on board the KRI Nanggala-402 submarine were declared dead in their duties.

The announcement was made after the search team found a number of authentic evidence that showed the KRI Nanggala-402 sank at a depth of 838 meters and the hull of the ship was split into three parts.

The ship is actually scheduled to have a missile firing exercise in the Bali Sea scheduled for Thursday, April 22. This exercise will be witnessed by TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto and Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Laksamana Yudho Margono.

Technically, the KRI Nanggala-402 comes from the Type 209/1300 which was made by the Howaldtswerke shipyard in Kiel, West Germany in 1979, and entered active service in 1981.
