May Day 2025, Yogyakarta Police Deploy 924 Security Personnel

JAKARTA - Yogyakarta City Police (Polresta) will deploy 924 joint personnel to secure demonstrations in commemoration of International Labor Day 2025 on Thursday 1 May.

"Before security, a big apple will be held first. Big apples will be for the place where we have not appointed," said Kasihumas Yogyakarta Police Commissioner Adjutant Sujarwo when contacted in Yogyakarta, Tuesday.

According to AKP Sujarwo, the personnel who will be deployed consist of 494 members of the Yogyakarta Police who will join 430 personnel from the Yogyakarta Regional Police.

This combination of personnel includes various units, including Ditsamapta, Satbrimob, Ditlantas, and support from Biddokkes Polda DIY which will provide ambulances for medical purposes.

"This security is to anticipate that these activities can run smoothly. This means that it does not disturb other residents, then their aspirations can also be channeled," said AKP Sujarwo.

Based on the information he received, the long march action of the labor alliance will start from the Pal Putih Monument, crossing to various points such as the Abu Bakar Ali parking lot, DIY DPRD Building, and Kepatihan, before ending at Point 0 Kilometer as the location of the action participants' speeches.

Kasihumas Polresta Yogyakarta appealed to the action participants to hold a commemoration of Labor Day 2025 in an orderly, disciplined, and non-anarchist manner in the central area of Gudeg City.

"Actions that are anarchic will only harm all parties, including participants and other communities," he said.

AKP Sujarwo guarantees that all police personnel deployed will prioritize a humanist approach in security in the field.

"It will not be provoked by the lure of something from irresponsible people," he said.

Regarding the number of participants who are expected to participate in the May 1 action, according to Sujarwo, although there have been no definite reports received, it is estimated that the number could reach a thousand people.

"It's still tentative. It can be reduced, maybe it can increase," he said.

To maintain the smooth flow of traffic during the action, said AKP Sujarwo, the Yogyakarta Police have prepared a plan to divert traffic flow or engineering on a number of road sections that will be passed by long march participants.

"The diversion of traffic flow will be situational. We have prepared a traffic engineering plan, but the implementation will adjust to conditions in the field," said AKP Sujarwo.

He appealed to people who do not have an interest in the Malioboro area, the Pal Putih Monument, to the 0 Kilometer Point on Thursday (1/5) to find alternative routes to avoid potential congestion.

"The access roads around Malioboro, from the Pal Putih Monument to the 0 Kilometer point, can be avoided first so as not to be hampered on the way," he said.
