An ustaz with the initials AF who teaches at one of the Islamic boarding schools in West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), has been officially named a suspect in the alleged sexual harassment case against a number of female students.

The determination of the suspect was carried out after the investigation stage case was held on Wednesday night, April 23, 2025.

Head of the Mataram Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Regi Halili, explained that AF has now been detained in the Mataram Police detention room.

"We have named the person concerned as a suspect for sexual immorality and sexual intercourse with female students," Regi told reporters, Antara, Thursday, April 24.

According to Regi, AF was cooperative and admitted to his actions, which accelerated the investigation process since the first victim's report was received on April 16, 2025.

Until now, the police have identified 13 victims. Initially, five female students reported AF on suspicion of sexual intercourse, and four others reported sexual abuse. However, one victim was reported to have experienced both, resulting in an increase in the number of victims.

"Initially 10 people, but because there were three additional victims who came to provide information, now the total number is 13 victims," said Regi.

The police suspect that the number of victims could still increase, because the investigation continues to grow. According to the NTB's Coalition for Stop Sexual Violence (KSKS) records, AF victims are estimated to reach dozens of people.

The disclosure of this case stems from the courage of the female students to report after watching the film Bidaah Walid. The film inspired them to get out of fear and complain about the harassment they experienced.

The victim's report was also strengthened by legal assistance from the NTB KSKS, which was considered to help provide courage and protection to the victims.

The chairman of the NTB KSKS, Joko Jumadi, who accompanied the victim's legal process, stated that his party would continue to oversee this case so that the victims get justice, and encourage similar practices in the educational environment to be prevented from an early age.
