Azis Syamsuddin Dragged Into Bribery Case By KPK Investigators, PSI: DPR Needs To Be Saved

JAKARTA - DPP PSI believes that the image of the DPR needs to be saved following the alleged involvement of the Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Azis Syamsuddin, in the alleged bribery case of the Mayor of Tanjungbalai, M Syahrial, and KPK investigator, Stepanus Robin Pattuju.

"This is a case that really hurts the hearts of all of us. A deputy chairman of the DPR facilitates a meeting of parties suspected of committing illegal conspiracy. The DPR has become less authoritative, its image has become more and more fragile, becoming a hotbed of political brokers," said DPP PSI spokesman Faldo Maldini was quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 28.

PSI assessed that the longtime DPR members in Commission III of the DPR must know the code of ethics and rules at the KPK. The KPK has internal regulations that prohibit investigators and employees from meeting the parties to be questioned. In fact, this is common among law enforcers.

“The old DPR members in Commission III of the DPR, like Bang Azis, are like a double-edged sword. He knows the laws of everything, but on the other hand, he also understands his tactics. So, just choose which one. Don't just stop at Bang Azis, but also reveal who other politicians like to trade influence like this, "continued Faldo Maldini.

Therefore, PSI considers the Honorary Court of the Council to have a strategic role to save the image of the DPR.

"It is dangerous, if public trust in the DPR is increasingly ineffective. This is the problem with the leadership allegedly violating the code of ethics. In the previous period, the leadership was hit by two people. This is the momentum for MKD to restore public trust," said Faldo.

Meanwhile, the KPK will explore Syamsuddin's role in introducing Syahrial to Pattuju. Most recently, the KPK searched Azis Syamsuddin's office in the DPR building.

"It is true, today, April 28, the KPK investigating team conducted a search at the DPR RI building," said Acting KPK spokesman Ali Fikri.
