JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, said that Indonesia's support for Palestinian independence has never subsided.

"Support for Palestine is a moral and historical call for the Indonesian nation. Indonesia continues to support the struggle of the Palestinian people and has not changed since the era of independence," said Puan to Fattouh, as quoted from her statement in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, April 20.
Puan also said that Indonesia's support for Palestine was not only carried out by the people and the Indonesian government. The Indonesian House of Representatives, he said, also continues to fight for the independence of Palestine.
"Both on bilateral tables and international forums, the Indonesian House of Representatives continues to voice support for Palestine and invites world countries to strive for the creation of peace in Palestine," he said.
He further mentioned that in various multilateral meetings, such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as well as the ASEAN forum and the United Nations, the DPR RI consistently raises the issue of gross human rights violations that befell Palestinians.
According to him, the DPR RI's move is in line with the mandate of the Indonesian constitution which wants world peace to be realized.
"We must take the lead in promoting peaceful resolutions and rejecting violence as a means to resolve disputes. Israeli attacks on civilians including women, children and parents in Gaza and the West Bank must be stopped," Puan said at the Forum The Group of Parliaments in support of Palestine.
Meanwhile, while talking with Rawhi Fattouh, Puan also conveyed her commitment to strengthening cooperation between the DPR RI and the Palestinian Parliament.
