Prosecutors arrested a corruption suspect in controlling KAI assets of Rp21.91 billion

JAKARTA - The Special Crimes Division (Pidsus) of the Medan Kejari, North Sumatra, arrested Risma Siahaan alias RS (64), a suspect in corruption in the control of assets belonging to PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) worth Rp21.91 billion.

"Yes, the hospital was arrested after being named a suspect on Thursday (17/4)," said Head of Special Investigation Unit of the Medan Kejari Mochamad Ali Rizza in Medan, Saturday.

The determination of the status of the hospital as a suspect, he continued, was based on the letter of determination of the suspect Number: TAP-03/L.2.10/Fd.2/04/2025.

The suspect at the hospital is suspected of corruption in the possession of assets belonging to PT KAI (Persero) located on Jalan Sutomo Medan, Number 11, due to not complying with the provisions.

"Based on the letter of determination of the suspect, the Medan Kejari issued an arrest warrant for the suspect RS," he explained, quoted from ANTARA.

He said that his party had officially summoned the suspect RS more than three times to provide information, but the person concerned was not cooperative.

"We received information that the suspect RS is at his residence on Jalan Sutomo, Perintis Village, East Medan District, Medan City," said Ali.

The Pidsus investigation team together with the Medan Polrestabes and the local neighborhood head moved together to the location of the suspect's residence at the hospital.

At the location, the joint team met the suspect RS at his house with his son. In fact, the officers had read out the letter of determination of the suspect RS, and an open arrest warrant was witnessed by his son.

"But the suspect refused to surrender and resisted, so a forced attempt was made. The suspect was taken to the Medan Class IIA Women's Detention Center to undergo examination and detention," he explained.

While on his way to the women's detention center, the suspect RS intensively communicated with his legal adviser by using his cell phone.

When at the detention center, the suspect at the hospital pretended to be unconscious, so the team immediately contacted Dr. Pirngadi Hospital Medan.

The results of the medical examination showed that the suspect RS was in good health and had nothing to do with the detention process.

When handed over to the detention center, the suspect RS again pretended to be unconscious, so the detention center refused to accept the suspect at the hospital because an interview could not be carried out.

"The suspect was finally taken to the Bandung General Hospital using an ambulance belonging to the Medan Class IIA Women's Detention Center for medical treatment and hospitalization at 19.30 WIB," said Rizza.

The Medan Kejari also emphasized that this arrest was a commitment in eradicating corruption while still respecting human rights, and the suspect's right to the hospital for legal assistance.

Based on the results of an audit by the Indonesian Financial Audit Agency (BPK), the actions of the RS suspect have caused state financial losses of Rp. 21,911,000,000.

For his actions, the suspect RS was charged with Article 2 paragraph (1) subsidiary Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 paragraph (1) of Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code.

"The suspect was also charged with Article 15 in conjunction with Article 18 paragraph (1) of the same law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code," said Ali Rizza.
