Urges KUHAP Revision, Habiburokhman Reveals Excess New Bill And Public Input Law

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, Dr. Habiburokhman, SH, MH, emphasized the importance of input from the wider community in drafting the Draft Criminal Procedure Code (RUU KUHAP). He hopes that this bill can become an effective legal product to facilitate fair law enforcement in Indonesia.

"We ask for input from the public. The Draft of the Criminal Procedure Code Bill can be downloaded on the DPR RI website or requested to the Secretariat of Commission III of the DPR RI. All forms of input can be submitted directly through the Secretariat of Commission III of the DPR RI," said Habiburokhman in his statement, Thursday ([Today's date, for example: April 17, 2025]).

This Gerindra Party politician emphasized the urgency to replace the current applicable Criminal Procedure Code, which is more than 44 years old. In addition to adjusting to the new Criminal Code (KUHP) which will take effect in January 2026, this revision is also driven by the need for fundamental improvement.

"The biggest complaint from the Criminal Procedure Code currently in effect is the issue of the lack of protection of suspect rights and the lack of advocate roles. As a result, there were many arbitrary detentions and even torture in detention," said Habiburokhman.

Habiburokhman again invited all elements of society to study the draft of the Criminal Procedure Code and provide constructive input for the improvement of criminal procedural law in Indonesia.

"This Criminal Procedure Code Bill is designed to better protect human rights, ensure transparency, and prioritize a just settlement of cases," he concluded.
