Discussing The U.S. Returnable Tariffs With Foreign Minister Sugiono, Foreign Minister Rubio Welcomes Indonesian Economic Reform

JAKARTA - United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio welcomed the economic reforms carried out by Indonesia, acknowledging the importance of strategic partnerships between the two countries when receiving Foreign Minister Sugiono, Wednesday local time.

"Foreign Minister Rubio and Foreign Minister Sugiono discussed the US reciprocal tariff against Indonesia. Foreign Minister Rubio welcomed Indonesia's efforts to introduce economic reform towards a fair and balanced trade relationship," US State Department spokesman Tammy Bruce said on the US State Department website. On the occasion, the two main diplomats of each country discussed ways to deepen defense and security cooperation, including efforts to uphold freedom of navigation and aviation in the South China Sea in accordance with international law.

"The US Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of a maximum pressure campaign against the Iranian regime to limit the revenue flow it uses to finance terrorism, production of ballistic missiles, and activities that disrupt other stability," Bruce said.

Foreign Minister Rubio and Foreign Minister Sugiono underlined the importance of continuing to advance the partnership between the two countries, Bruce said.

He added that Foreign Minister Rubio thanked Foreign Minister Sugiono for Indonesia's efforts to facilitate the repatriation of its deportations from the United States.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a separate statement that the US Foreign Minister and the Indonesian Foreign Minister agreed to increase strategic partnerships to discuss problems in the Gaza Strip, when they met in Washington DC.

Foreign Minister Sugiono said he was the first foreign minister of ASEAN countries Foreign Minister Rubio has received in Washington DC since taking office last February.
