Mr. Nadiem, Building Tolerance Among Students Is Necessary

JAKARTA - Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Nadiem Makarim was asked by Komnas HAM to build tolerance among students, in addition to making innovations in the world of education.

"For Mr. Nadiem, besides making innovations in teaching and learning methods, he ensures that there is material on how to build good tolerance," Komnas HAM Commissioner Choirul Anam told reporters at the Komnas HAM Office, Jalan Laturharhari, Central Jakarta, Thursday, November 28. .

He added, there is a development of the value of tolerance among students, to get to know the various religions, ethnicities, races and groups that exist in Indonesia. "That will build a strong state foundation," he said.

In addition to building tolerance, Nadiem also needs to reduce education based on certain identities. Moreover, children's basic education, from elementary to high school, is spent in schools with homogeneous environments.

Therefore, Choirul asked the existence of exclusive schools to be reviewed. This is because the school does not accustom students to living in various situations.

"How can he have different friends. If we are not accustomed to different friends since childhood, we can see that it is a threat. That's a danger," said Choirul.

He also asked that educational institutions with a closed system and with a certain identity background should be reviewed by the Minister of Education and Culture. The goal is to check whether this exclusive school continues to teach tolerance to its students.

"It must be confirmed. If not, our education will only separate later," he concluded.
