The Families Of Corruptors Will Still Be Entangled By The KPK In Accordance With The Money Laundering Law

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) stated that the families of corruptors will be punished if found guilty of money laundering (TPPU). This has been regulated in Article 5 of the Money Laundering Law.

This statement was conveyed by KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardhika when asked about President Prabowo Subianto's wish that the families of corruptors continue to get justice.

"Regarding the problem of not touching his family, of course, it needs to be seen in the context. If there are things that are enjoyed by the family and are known to be real, there is a mechanism in the Money Laundering Act (TPPU)," Tessa told reporters quoted Thursday, April 10.

"(There is, red) in Article 5 if I'm not mistaken. Where there are parties who really enjoy the results of the corruption crime," he continued.

The Article 5 of the Money Laundering Law in question by Tessa reads as follows, "Everyone who receives or controls placement, transfer, payments, grants, donations, deposits, exchanges, or uses assets that he knows or should be suspected of being the result of a criminal act as referred to in Article 2 paragraph (1) shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 5 (five) years and a maximum fine of Rp1,000,000,000.00 (one billion rupiah)."

Even so, Prabowo's wish could open a discourse. Tessa said discussions could be held by related parties.

"However, in general, the KPK supports President Prabowo in the context of impoverishing these corruptors," said the spokesman with the investigator's background.

As previously reported, President Prabowo Subianto stated that the state would definitely confiscate assets belonging to perpetrators of corruption in the country. However, justice must still be given to his family.

He conveyed this when interviewed by seven editor-in-chief at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java on Sunday, April 6. Initially, Prabowo said the results of stealing corruptors had to be returned.

"I think like this, return what you stole! The state losses he caused must be returned, so the assets he owns deserve the state to confiscate," Prabowo was quoted as saying in a statement shared by the Prabowo Media Team, Monday, April 7.

However, the children and wives of the corruptors still have to get justice. Because it could be, the assets they have were not from the proceeds of stealing people's money.

"We have to be fair to his wife and children, for example, if there are assets that already have them before he takes office, whether it is fair for us to confiscate them," he said.

"How will it be with the child, is it possible for parents to be passed on to their children? Later the legal experts will discuss it," continued the former Minister of Defense.
