Passengers Bring 50 Packages Of Cannabis Destinations For Timika, Claiming To Have Escaped 2 Times From Airport Officers

SENTANI - Sentani Airport security officer, Jayapura Regency, Papua, arrested a prospective passenger with the initials SKYP (26) for carrying 50 packages of marijuana weighing 783 grams.

Prospective passengers to Timika who were caught carrying 50 packages of marijuana were scheduled to fly using Lion Air JT 985 aircraft.

Head of the Sentani Airport Area Police, Ipda Wajedi, said that initially airport security officers who monitored the X-Ray industry engine were suspicious of the contents of a suitcase belonging to one of the prospective passengers.

After submitting the report, the officers then traced the suitcase which turned out to belong to SKYP, a prospective passenger who was currently reporting his departure to Timika at the Lion Air counter at Sentani Airport.

Because they were suspicious of the passengers' belongings, the officers then carried out an inspection until they found 50 packs or packages containing marijuana in the suitcase.

"The cannabis package consists of 47 large packaging packages and three small packaging packages," said Wajedi when confirmed by ANTARA, Thursday, April 10.

SKYP admitted that this is the third time he has brought marijuana to Timika and two other packages have escaped the officer's examination. Currently, SKYP has been handed over to the Jayapura Police Narcotics Investigation Unit for further legal proceedings.

ajedi. added that the marijuana smuggling attempt was not the first time because since January 2025 officers at Sentani Airport managed to thwart five narcotics shipments.

"The destination city, apart from Timika, is also Wamena and Sorong," said Wajedi.
