Koster Asks BPS Not To Enter Canang Into Inflation Commodities

DENPASAR - Bali Governor Wayan Koster asked the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in the Economic Census to later not include essence as one of the commodities that is included in the inflation tally.

Koster asked that it should be converted into a commodity of janur, flowers, or bananas as part of the ingredients for making the means of praying for the juice canang.

"So that BPS does not include ceremonial infrastructure in Bali such as canang and daksina as an inflation factor, because it is part of the non-scale element, if the material is like a bush or janur, flowers, bananas can be used as an inflation factor," said Koster as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 9.

According to the Governor of Bali, further studies on the Balinese economy need to be carried out, including loading essence as an inflation commodity, where so far these prayer facilities have often been included in the ranks of inflation contributors every time before the holiday.

Currently, the Bali Provincial Government is undergoing economic transformation through the concept of Bali's Kerthi Economy, which includes the organic agriculture, marine and fisheries sectors, Small and Medium Industries (IKM) to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Even the local government is preparing the Bali Cultural Census program with locations in Traditional Villages.

Governor Koster said this census was aimed at protecting Balinese culture, because Bali is known for its richness and unique culture and is located in traditional villages.

"Later we will design whether BPS Bali is the organizer of this census in cooperation or what mechanism will be, what is clear is that the cultural data in this traditional village must be detailed, we have it as an asset," he said.

The Bali Provincial Government in this cultural census also wants to record the number of Balinese manners to know specifically the number and education of the first child, namely the ones in front of Wayan, Putu, and Gede; the second child named Made, Nengah, and Kadek or Kade; the third child is Komang and Nyoman; and the fourth child is Ketut.

This was conveyed directly by Koster to the Head of BPS Bali Agus Gede Hendrayana Hermawan who had recently been inaugurated.

Agus Gede himself feels proud because the Governor of Bali has always used data for reference in designing development programs in Bali.

Therefore, he came to the governor's residence to ask for permission and suggestions in carrying out the statistical program.
