JAKARTA - Jordanian King Abdullah II on Thursday called on the international community to "immediately act" to stop the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza.
"The Israeli war in Gaza must be stopped, a ceasefire must be reinstated, and humanitarian aid must continue," the Jordanian King said at a joint news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz after their talks in Berlin, according to a statement issued by the country's Royal Court.
Abdullah II reiterated the need for the international community "to take action to stop the dangerous escalation in the West Bank, where tens of thousands of Palestinians have fled their homes and villages," noting that the evacuation of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza "could plunge the entire region into further instability."
"Yordania is making every effort to help alleviate the critical humanitarian situation in Gaza by providing assistance in all possible ways, he added, and praising Germany's support for humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip," Abdullah II said again, quoted by Antara.
The King also warned of the dangers of continued violations of Muslim and Christian holy places in Jerusalem, "which sparked further tensions and undermined opportunities for peace."
He underlined that the only way forward is through a political solution based on a two-state solution that guarantees peace and security for Palestine, Israel, and the entire region.

His Majesty also stressed the importance of working to stabilize the region, including supporting Syria and its efforts to maintain its territorial security, stability and integrity, stressing that Jordan "hopes to see Syria stable and secure again, where refugees can safely return to contribute to rebuilding their country."
He expressed optimism that "a well-interpreted plan to rebuild Gaza will be supported by all parties."
Meanwhile, Chancellor Scholz said Jordan and Germany had close partnerships and friendships, which had lasted more than 70 years.
Chancellor Scholz stressed the need to "return the ceasefire in Gaza and resume humanitarian aid deliveries, while warning that the current situation should not continue because many people are starving and suffer from continued brutal violence and lack of medical support and assistance."
