JAKARTA - A total of 554 Indonesian citizens (WNI) victims of online fraud or scams in Myanmar have been gradually repatriated by the Government of Indonesia. They arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta), Tangerang today, Tuesday, March 18.
Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding revealed that they were victims of large-scale online fraud placed on the Myanmar-Thailand border, Myawaddy. These illegal migrant workers experienced psychological torture and violence to the physical.
"So they work, for example, they work in front of a computer with a target, for example you have to spend a day with a number of people, or the amount you get. If he [the target] does not get beaten," said Minister Karding when welcoming Indonesian citizens who were victims of online scam Myanmar at Soetta Airport, Tangerang, Banten, Tuesday 18 March.
He added that as many as 449 men and 105 women illegal migrant workers who were rescued by the Indonesian government were also victims of exploitation. They are employed not knowing the time with threats of violence.
"And that's one, the modus operandi, the second he works fully, doesn't know the night. If he doesn't work a little bit, he gets beaten to sleep," he said.
This PKB politician admitted that the most sad case of exploitation was the broker or the tekong allegedly still an Indonesian citizen. "So we agreed earlier that we suspect the players involved in these 554 people," he added.
Furthermore, Minister Karding ensured that the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI) would provide their post-return assistance by carrying out reintegration to profiling before finally escorting the return of these Indonesian citizens to their families.
"We will re-integrate socially, from profiling we will see what treatment of this person we can do, what business assistance, does it work anywhere, etc," he concluded.
