JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) Ubaidillah asked television and radio to prioritize recovery of victims during flood coverage. It is known that several areas in Jabodetabek and a number of areas in other cities were affected by the flood disaster.

"I would like to thank the television and radio that have been struggling to inform the public about the floods that have recently occurred," he said in Jakarta, Tuesday (4/3).

"In informing the public, continue to use regulatory signs so that the information submitted does not cause social panic. At the same time, it can encourage efforts to recover affected residents," he continued.

In addition, Gus Ubaid, as he is familiarly called, also asked that television and radio working around flood disasters not interfere with the evacuation process carried out by emergency response workers and volunteers.

"It does not interfere with the work process of the emergency response team, so the evacuation process is conducive, the recovery of the affected residents and their families will be handled immediately and quickly," he added.

In addition, Gus Ubaid reminded that disaster coverage should prioritize empathy and not cause trauma to affected residents. According to him, the use of images is not to be explored excessively.

"Not allowed to interview minors as resource persons in disaster coverage, not showing serious injuries, not showing the victim's image in detail with a close-up," he continued.

The chairman of KPI hopes that through disaster coverage that is wise and in accordance with the public interest, he can quickly carry out the recovery process. "Hopefully, the flood will recede soon, then the affected residents can immediately return to their normal activities," he concluded.
