Car Terror Hits Crowds In Mannheim Germany, One Person Dies, Some Injured

One person was killed and several others injured when a car hit a crowd in the western German city of Mannheim.

The driver of the car has been detained. However, it is not clear whether there are other suspects. The police appealed to the public to avoid the area.

Reported by Reuters on Monday, March 3, the incident occurred as crowds gathered in cities in Germany's western Rhineland to conduct parades marking the carnival season.

The black SUV was traveling at high speed towards a group of people, traveling from the Paradeplatz square located in the city center towards the city's famous water tower, local media reported.

Security has come of major concern in Germany following a series of violent attacks in recent weeks, including deadly car collisions in Magdeburg in December 2024 and in Munich last month, as well as stabbings in Mannheim in May 2024.

Police are very vigilant ahead of this year's carnival parade after social media accounts linked to the Islamic State militant group called for an attack on events in Cologne and Nuremberg.
