The South Jakarta Food, Maritime and Agriculture Security Service (KPKP) revealed a number of characteristics of chickens that have beenongong so that people are more vigilant when buying chicken meat in the market.

The head of the South Jakarta KPKP, Hasudungan A Sidabalok, explained thatongongan chickens tend to be wetter than fresh chickens in general.

The first one looks wetter. If fresh chicken is usually only moisturized, chicken actually looks wet and often sheds water when hung," said Hasudungan, Friday (28/2).

In addition, theongongongan chicken also feels more slippery when touched due to the excess water in it.

"The surface of the skin is more slippery because of the unnatural water content," he added.

Not only from texture, chicken smells are also different. According to Hasudungan, the odor is much sharper than ordinary chickens.

"Usually fresh chicken has a distinctive odor of emis, but if this is an emis it is more pungent and smells unnatural," he explained.

Other differences can be seen when the chicken is cooked. Fried chicken will experience drastic shrinkage because the water contained in it evaporates.

If cooked, suddenly the chicken shrinks smaller than its original size. If fried, the oil can be cut badly," added Hasudungan.

Meanwhile, the Head of Resmob Satreskrim South Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Bima Sakti, revealed that the weight of the chicken can increase by around 100-200 grams due to this illegal practice.

Previously, the police arrested a chicken trader with the initials S at the Kebayoran Lama Market on Thursday (27/2) early morning. He has now been named a suspect and charged with Article 62 Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 8 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection.

The threat of punishment is no joke, namely a maximum of 5 years in prison and a fine of up to Rp. 2 billion.

The public is advised to be more careful in buying chicken meat, especially those that look too wet and heavy are unnatural, in order to avoid the consumption of groundonging chickens that have the potential to harm health.
