JAKARTA - The Jember Police, East Java, will detain a lecturer at the University of Jember (Unej) with the initials RH who has been named a suspect in a case of alleged sexual harassment against a teenager who is also his nephew.
"We complete the administration of the investigation to the final stage. If it is complete and there is agreement between the parties, of course the next stage will be carried out, up to detention," said Jember Police Chief of Protection for Women and Children (PPA) Iptu Diyah Vitasari to reporters in Jember, quoted by Antara, Thursday, April 22.
According to him, one of the instructions that was equipped was filing the testimony of an expert witness, namely the psychiatrist who examined the victim. The police already have at least two pieces of valid evidence to ensnare the lecturer because there is already an agreement between the witness's testimony and the instructions for the letter issued by a post-mortem from a psychiatric doctor.
"The letter stated that the victim was severely depressed after the sexual harassment incident she experienced at the suspect's house," he said.
He explained that police investigators had also filed an examination report (BAP) on the psychiatric expert witness who handled the victim.
"So far the suspect has also been cooperative when asked for information by investigators, while the victim has also received assistance from PPT and LBH Jentera, so that his condition is stable," he said.
Confirmed separately, the Head of General Crimes Section of the Jember State Prosecutor's Office, Aditya Okto Thohari, said that Jember Police investigators had sent a Letter of Commencement of Investigation (SPDP) for alleged sexual harassment with suspected Unej lecturers.
"Investigators have coordinated and conducted several cases at the Jember Kejari, but the files have not been completed. We are just waiting for the case files to be submitted to the prosecutor's office," he said.
The police previously named an Unej lecturer with the initials RH as a suspect in a case of alleged sexual violence against a 16 year old teenager who is also his nephew.
Unej temporarily released RH from his position as the Coordinator of the Master Program (S-2) of the Administrative Science Study Program of the Unej FISIP as of April 15. The duties of teaching, guiding, and testing are freed, but those that have been previously plotted and are in the process will be continued by other lecturers.
