If It Doesn't Rain Anymore, The City Government Targets To Repair Embankments At Ancol Market Bandung To Be Completed For 5 Days

BANDUNG - The City Government (Pemkot) of Bandung, West Java, is targeting improvements to the collapsed kirmir or embankment in Ancol Market, Bandung, on Sunday, February 23 can be completed in five days.

Head of the Bandung City Water Resources and Highways Agency (DSABM) Didi Ruswandi explained that this improvement was part of efforts to restore infrastructure affected by the disaster.

"Because it depends on the weather. If the water goes up, the work cannot be continued. But if it doesn't rain, five days can also be completed," said Didi in Bandung, Antara, Tuesday, February 25.

Didi revealed that themir collapsed due to the melting of the cliff-retaining soil by the river's water flow. Over time, the material that supports the structure has erosion so that it is no longer able to withstand the load above it.

He asked the Ancol Market manager to relocate merchant kiosks on the banks of the river. Because it can endanger the community, especially during the rainy season.

"On this side, actually there should be no building. The safe distance should be three meters from the kirimir, but here there is a building. So there is an additional burden that speeds up the damage," he said.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Bandung Erwin asked Perumda Pasar so that the affected traders could be relocated to a safer temporary place so that they could still sell.

"We want to make sure that their livelihood continues. Do not let traders lose their income during the repair," he said.

In addition to repairing the kirmir, he said, the Bandung City Government also identified the potential for similar damage in other areas along the Citepus River so that the same thing does not happen again.

"DSDABM has mapped the UPT to check rivers that are prone to landslides. Currently, the smuggling process is carried out again using a deeper method and using the chicken claw system as an anticipatory measure," said Erwin.
