Deputy Minister Of Foreign Affairs Of The Republic Of Indonesia: MIKTA Has A Strategic Role In Ensuring A More Fair And Representative Global Order

JAKARTA - Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir said MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia) has a strategic role in ensuring a fairer and more representative global order.

He said that while attending the 27th MiKTA Foreign Ministers Meeting (MIKTA FMM) in Johannesburg, South Africa, on the sidelines of the G20 FMM as a momentum to strengthen MIKTA's role in facing global challenges, on Thursday.

In this meeting, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tata emphasized the urgency of more inclusive and responsive global governance reforms.

"Multilateralism is currently used too often only when it is profitable. MIKTA must be at the forefront of encouraging more adaptive and effective global governance," said Deputy Foreign Minister Tata in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Friday, February 21.

In the meeting session, the Mikta Foreign Ministers agreed that the current multilateral system has not been effective in responding to global challenges. Therefore, MIKTA must continue to encourage the implementation of the UN Pact for the Future as part of efforts to strengthen the multilateral system.

MIKTA is also committed to strengthening coordination in ensuring the agenda of developing countries remains sustainable in various international forums.

MIKTA will continue to encourage key issues such as a sustainable economy, inclusive digital transformation, and development rights for all countries.

Deputy Foreign Minister Tata emphasized the importance of partnership diversification to strengthen MIKTA's position in dealing with global uncertainty.

"As a cross-regional middle power group, MIKTA has a strategic role in ensuring a fairer and more representative global order," he said.

It is known, MIKTA FMM this time produced Joint Communiqué which affirms its commitment to democracy, international law and multilateralism, encourages the resolution of conflicts and humanitarian problems in Palestine, especially Gaza, support for peaceful settlements in global conflicts, protection of human rights, migrant workers, and strengthening women's participation in global development.

In addition, this time the Mikta FMM meeting was also a place to hand over MiKTA chairmen from Mexico to South Korea. Deputy Foreign Minister Tata appreciated Mexico's leadership as Chair of the MiKTA over the past year.
