JAKARTA - Two British nationals detained in Iran have been charged with espionage for allegedly gathering information in various regions of the country.
The British Ministry of Foreign Affairs named the two Craig and Lindsay Ferry. Meanwhile, the defendant's family said they were communicating with the relevant authorities to ensure the couple's condition and return safely.
"People detained enter the country as tourists and gather information in several provinces in the country," Iranian court news agency Mizan said.
There are no further details about the two men. But British media said they were husband and wife.
Court officials said the two had ties to intelligence agencies and investigations into the alleged relationship were ongoing.
