Not A Resident Of An Apartment, The DPRD Affirms That The Water Subsidy Is Only Appropriate For Small Communities

JAKARTA - Member of Commission B of the DKI DPRD, Pandapotan Sinaga, emphasized that the piped clean water subsidy only deserves to be given to small communities. According to him, business actors or residents of luxury apartments are not entitled to receive water subsidies.

Pandapotan emphasized that clean water subsidies should not be appropriate to target groups of upper middle class people, such as apartment residents. Pandapotan assessed that it was natural that the increase in water rates also targeted apartment residents.

"Inventory is also the flats who have the right to receive subsidies. So, not everyone gets subsidies. Yes, we subsidize Thamrin's apartment, we subsidize Kuningan's apartment, that's not true," said Pandapotan in the meeting room of the DKI Jakarta DPRD building, Monday, February 17.

Pandapotan reminded that the rising PAM Jaya water tariff for apartment residents is not a problem. This is because the classification of tariffs has been regulated so that small communities can still access PAM Jaya water at affordable prices.

"If we still subsidies water to entrepreneurs or those who are commercialized, what about those who are small?" he said.

Pandaptan hopes that the flat manager will support the adjustment of PAM Jaya's water tariff to accelerate drinking water pipelines throughout Jakarta. He also invited all parties to reduce dependence on groundwater and ensure that Jakarta can provide drinking water properly for all its citizens.

"We support how so that the use of ground water no longer occurs in Jakarta and Jakarta can provide drinking water for its citizens," he said.

Previously, the Chairman of the P3RSI Central Management Board (DPP), Adjit Lauhatta, questioned the basis for determining the same tariff for apartments and other commercial buildings. It is known that the water tariff for apartments is equated with a high-rise commercial building and a shopping center, which is IDR 21,500 per cubic meter.

"The function and designation are different. Apartments are residential areas, while commercial buildings and shopping centers focus on economic activities," said Adjit, some time ago.
