JAKARTA - The government has issued a policy to prohibit going home from 6-17 May 2021 to control the potential for transmission of COVID from urban communities to families in their hometowns.

Even though this prohibition applies, the government still doubts the public's compliance with these regulations.

The Coordinating Minister for Human and Cultural Empowerment (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy admitted, there are concerns that the government has about the 2021 homecoming activity that reflects last year. According to him, there will still be travelers who are determined to travel.

It is even predicted that the number of naughty homecomers reaches 13 percent of the 73-80 million people who usually do the Eid homecoming. Or there are around 10 million reckless travelers in the Eid 2021 period.

"And the 10 million is quite a scene. It is quite chaotic, twice the population of Singapore," Muhadjir said in his statement, Wednesday, April 21.

Therefore, Muhadjir said, his party was trying to find ways to minimize the number of residents who did not comply with the homecoming prohibition.

Muhadjir said, if the government did not impose a ban on going home, there would be around 73 million people traveling to their hometowns this year.

According to him, the government will not be able to enforce the discipline of the swab test as a condition of the road for 73 million travelers simultaneously.

"We are worried that there will be fake health certificates that will not be controlled. We are also worried that there will be unplanned crowds," he explained.

In addition, Muhadjir added, the momentum of Eid could be a big disaster for the people and nation of Indonesia if the government did not issue the homecoming ban. It is certain that the increase in cases due to the transmission of COVID-19 will spiral out of control, as happened in India.

"Some of the homecoming areas will also have an abundance of people and will definitely be careless. Gathering without masks, you don't know who is healthy who is not healthy. Will be careless and be hitched by the euphoria of the Eid holiday," said Coordinating Minister Muhadjir.
