Jokowi Is Believed By Observers To Accommodate PAN In The Cabinet, For The Sake Of The Image Of Embracing Opponents

JAKARTA - It is believed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will reshuffle the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet. Observers believe that Jokowi will 'kick' unproductive ministers from the cabinet.

There was also the issue of PAN being accommodated in the cabinet. There are rumors that PAN can share ministers.

Political observer Karyono Wibowo assesses that the decision to accommodate PAN in the cabinet is the right of President Jokowi as head of state. If PAN gets the seat of the Coordinating Minister for PMK, that is suitable because there is only one minister.

"But actually like this, there must be a reason to accommodate the opposition party, especially to strengthen political support or create political stability. I think the current position without PAN is actually stable in the political aspect," said Karyono to VOI, Monday, April 19.

The Executive Director of the Indonesia Public Institute (IPO) explained that a minister is a political position who must also prioritize the principle of the right man in the right place.

"So the minister's performance is in accordance with the programs launched by the president and vice president, and in accordance with the long-term national development to be achieved," said Karyono.

For Karyono, it is better for PAN to remain outside the government in order to stabilize the government's power so that it is not too dominant.

"It is better if there is a check and balance the government does not need to be too strong. This means that it should not cause abuse of power because the strong support can deviate. Therefore there needs to be a force outside the party that supports the government to balance checks and balance," he said.

But back again, Karyono said that the reshuffle was President Jokowi's right to be willing to accommodate PAN.

"For example, the president wants to accommodate PAN, that is the prerogative of the president. Maybe he wants to have the legacy of being the most accommodating president," Karyono explained.

According to him, supporting or not supporting PAN against the government will not have any effect.

"Say PAN wants a stiff, neutral opposition with PKS and Democrats, it won't overthrow the government because of its small power. But if you join, the president has other considerations that might make his government more stable in order to realize the development agenda. Yes please, maybe he (Jokowi) , red) will get laeacy as a president who embraces political opponents, "said Karyono.
