Sebalo River Soars Hundreds Of Houses In Bengkayang, West Kalimantan, Residents Hope To Normalize Rivers

JAKARTA - Floods overflowed from the Sebalo River in Bengkayang District, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan) inundated hundreds of residents' houses since 5 am, Tuesday, January 28.

"Hundreds of houses on self-help roads and housing complexes, especially those near the river, have been submerged," said Joshua, a resident of Bengkayang, who was confiscated by Antara.

Yosua stated that the flood occurred this Tuesday morning over the overflow of the Sebalo River due to high rainfall throughout the night.

"We hope that the government can normalize rivers and other solutions that can help residents," he said.

Yosua said, the water level reached one meter to one and a half meters. In addition, there were several residents who were affected by the evacuation of safe places, some of whom were still surviving to monitor the situation of houses and property.

Meanwhile, the head of the Bengkayang district BPBD, Dwi Berta, stated that there were 11 sub-districts in Bengkayang Regency that were hit by floods. Including in the Bengkayang market this morning.

The eleven sub-districts include Lumar District (longsor and floods), Ledo District, Sewide District, Sanggau Ledo District, Jagoi Babang District, Shout District, Sungai Betung District, Monterado District, Sungai Raya District, Sungai Raya Islands District, and Bengkayang District.

"It is hoped that all Bengkayang Regency residents will get to know the potential for disasters in their respective areas. And immediately evacuate to a safe place," he said.

He also asked the public to always be vigilant and immediately evacuate if conditions were not possible.

"Don't let the team no longer be able to evacuate because it is dangerous," he said.
