JAKARTA - TNI/Polri personnel were dispatched to secure brawls between community groups involving sharp weapons (sajam) in Punggolaka Village, Puuwatu District, Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra).

According to one of the residents with the initials A when met in Kendari, Friday, January 24, the conflict began because of protests against the flood problem caused by the developer of one of the housing estates on Jalan Hurami, Punggolaka Village.

Not accepting the accusations that the area was the cause of the flood, he said, residents who lived on Jalan Hurami then came out in front of the road and a brawl ensued.

"They came out, immediately chaotic," he said.

He said that when the brawl occurred, a number of warring residents were seen carrying a number of sharp machetes and spears.

"Someone brought the machete with a spear," he said.

Based on observations, until now the police and the TNI are still mediating between the two warring community groups.

In fact, a police company was alerted at the location to prevent further brawls between the two parties.
