JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono emphasized that the owner of the sea fence in the coastal area of North Coast (Pantura), Tangerang Regency, Banten, will be subject to an administrative fine of Rp. 18 million per kilometer.

The 30.16-kilometer marine fence in Tangerang waters is currently still in the process of being investigated to reveal who the owner is. Although the total fine has not been confirmed, Trenggono stated that fines will be applied after the owner is identified.

"We are still investigating the owner of this sea fence. If the fine is Rp. 18 million per kilometer, then the total fine will be calculated based on the length of the fence found, which is about 30 kilometers," said Trenggono at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 22.

Trenggono explained that the process of disclosing the identity of the owner of the sea fence was carried out with the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of BPN Nusron Wahid. According to preliminary information, there are two people suspected of being involved in this case. Furthermore, this case will be submitted to law enforcement officials for further processing.

"We will give administrative sanctions in the form of fines. However, if a criminal element is found, then this case will be continued by the police," he added.

Trenggono said that the installation of marine fences in Tangerang waters was an evaluation material for the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP). The KKP is now utilizing the technology-based monitoring system "Ocean Big Data" to monitor activities in water areas more accurately and in real-time.

"We continue to make corrections and improvements. With the full implementation of the 'Ocean Big Data' system, cases like this should be detected immediately," he explained.

Previously, the KKP had summoned two fishermen who claimed to be the party who installed the sea fence. Until now, the examination process of the two individuals is still ongoing, and the KKP is waiting for the results of the investigation to determine the next steps.

This case shows the government's commitment to preserving marine ecosystems and taking firm action against violations that harm the environment and society.
