JAKARTA - President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Muslim countries to support Palestinians, who rely on humanitarian aid to survive, after the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking after a cabinet meeting in the capital Ankara on Tuesday, President Erdogan asked the Arab and Muslim worlds to step up efforts and support the Gaza people through solidarity and humanitarian assistance, reported by the Daily Sabah on January 22.

Furthermore, President Erdogan also highlighted Israel's inhumane treatment of Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons.

"The images taken from the exchange of hostages between Israel and Palestine show which party respects human life and dignity," he said, referring to the physical and mental condition of Palestinians, who have been starving and tortured under Israeli detention, while the hostages detained by Hamas appear to be in stable condition.

Noting Turkey actively facilitated a ceasefire agreement through multidimensional diplomatic efforts, President Erdogan praised the Palestinian people for their resilience in defending their land despite the major challenges.

It is known that Palestinian militant groups Hamas and Israel reached a ceasefire agreement and a gradual release of hostages in an announcement last Wednesday, after negotiations with mediation between Qatar, Egypt and the United States for months.

The gradual deal came into effect on Sunday, having been delayed for several hours.

Yesterday, health authorities in Gaza confirmed that the death toll from Palestine since the latest conflict broke out on October 7, 2023 has reached 47,107, while injuries reached 11,147, as quoted by Barrons.
