Government Provides 4 Million Doses Of Vaccine Handling PMMK

The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) said the central government had provided four million doses of vaccine to deal with the spread of Mouth and Nail Disease (PMK) throughout Indonesia.

"This vaccine must be carried out. The government has provided 4 million doses of vaccine for PMK," said Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan) Sudaryono in the North Sumatra Food Coordination Meeting in Medan, Tuesday, January 21.

Deputy Minister Sudaryon said that the provision of vaccine doses must also be carried out by local governments, and asked farmers independently to vaccinate their livestock.

"We appeal to the provincial and district/city governments to also budget for vaccines," he said.

Sudaryono said the number of livestock infected by PMK throughout Indonesia was low because it was still below one standard of deviation and was far below twice the standard of deviation. Meanwhile, the area becomes an emergency for the PMK outbreak if the transmission is more than twice the deviation.

"Because if it has been above twice the status of deviation, it becomes an emergency. So we can still press it," he said.

Based on a report on the latest Indonesian animal health information system (Isikhnas) on December 28, 2024, to January 19, 2025, the number of livestock infected with the PMK outbreak was 26,061.

The livestock infected with the PMK outbreak were spread across 18 provinces, 121 districts and cities, 965 sub-districts and 2,893 villages that recorded 387 forced cuts and 829 dead.

In the same period, PMK control was carried out in 20 provinces, 135 districts and cities, 716 sub-districts, and 1,447 villages, through 64,084 doses of vaccination, 958 disinfection, treatment of 15,021 animals, investigation of 609 locations and 1,590 educational activities.

"We ask local governments to intensify education on the handling of PMK and urge farmers to carry out independent vaccines," he said.
